Why would the crew test older walls or flooring for asbestos before water-damage demolition?

Cutting or removing suspect material can release asbestos fibers, so identifying it can change who performs the demolition and how it is controlled. EPA recommends trained, accredited professionals for sampling; appearance alone cannot establish whether asbestos is present. Ask which materials will be disturbed, what testing is proposed, who receives the results and how any abatement changes the schedule and scope. Also ask about lead-painted surfaces. Do not cut samples yourself or assume one negative sample clears every material.
