Resolve the ongoing source before closing damaged areas. A failed pump can be one contributor without explaining every entry point. Ask for a documented assessment of drainage, discharge location, foundation openings and possible sewer involvement, plus a plan for keeping repaired materials dry. Illinois DNR distinguishes these pathways and advises checking proposed protection work with local officials. Coordinate that prevention work with the restoration scope; a drying service does not automatically include drainage redesign, foundation repair or the required permits.
