Should I buy a mold test kit or pay for testing before deciding what work is needed?

Start by asking what question the test would answer and how the result would change the plan. EPA says testing is usually unnecessary when mold is visible, and there is no federal mold limit that certifies a home safe. A moisture and damage assessment may be more useful. If sampling has a defined purpose, use someone experienced in designing and interpreting it. A test is not a substitute for fixing moisture or assessing health concerns with a clinician.
