Do not use a potentially contaminated system as the drying method. CDC recommends professional inspection and cleaning of a flood-affected HVAC system before restarting it. Ask the service provider to identify the affected ducts, insulation and equipment, and explain what can be cleaned versus replaced. EPA says wet or moldy duct insulation cannot be effectively cleaned and should be replaced. The appropriate scope depends on the duct materials and actual contamination, not simply whether air still comes from the vents.
